On Monday, the Louisiana House unanimously supported legislation that would make hazing a felony. The bill, called the “Max Gruver Act” is named after the 18-year-old Louisiana State University (LSU) fraternity pledge who passed away last fall due to coerced alcohol consumption. Individuals convicted in cases of hazing-related deaths could receive up to five years in prison and fines of up to $10,000. The bill passed the House and is now headed to the Senate for consideration, according to the Minden Press-Herald.

Wear denim on April 25 to Support Sexual Assault Awareness Month. In Rome in 1992, a young woman was told by the Italian Supreme Court that her rape must have been consensual sex because her jeans were too tight for the attacker to remove on his own. Every year, people all over the world participate in International Denim Day to send the message that there is never an excuse for rape or sexual assault. Wear denim on Wednesday, April 25, to protest and show your support for sexual assault survivors all over the world. Share this information with your chapter and post a photo to social media using #DenimDay. Be sure to tag @kappa_alpha_theta in the photo!
