The California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity outraged many on campus after a photo circulated showing a member in blackface. Lambda Chi Alpha apologized in a statement, saying the fraternity held a competition that grouped members into teams represented by different colors. One team chose black, and “that is why the person’s face was colored,” said the fraternity’s president. The student has resigned from the fraternity, reports the Huffington Post. Additionally, the College Panhellenic leadership issued an open letter to campus condemning the incident and committing itself more fully to fostering diversity and inclusion.
Thank you, workforce volunteers, for all the time, talent, energy, and love that you devote to Kappa Alpha Theta. Theta would not be the organization it is today without you and your fellow volunteers. During this Volunteer Appreciation Week, be sure to thank one another for the love you share for Theta and the meaningful friendships and extraordinary bonds you’ve developed together. You are so special to us, this week and every week.
