The parents of two college students who took their own lives in an Alpha Kappa Lambda Fraternity house have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Truman State University, the fraternity, and Brandon Grossheim, a fraternity member they claim “encouraged” their children and three others to kill themselves within the same year, according to NBC News. Truman State University denied having any involvement in the deaths and Alpha Kappa Lambda said it could not comment yet. Grossheim, an Alpha Kappa Lambda member, had close ties to the five and was either the last to speak to them or found their bodies, according to the lawsuit filed Wednesday in Adair County Circuit Court in Missouri. The lawsuit claims the manner of death was similar in the suicides, and that Grossheim had keys and access to the rooms of at least four of the victims.
Are you confused about who to contact about a Theta program? The Workforce Communication Guide (Igloo > Files > Resources > Volunteer Resources) has been updated to help you. Please remember that this guide is only for the workforce and should not be shared with non-workforce Theta volunteers. Workforce Contact Information (under Quick Links on Igloo’s home page and under Helpful Links at the bottom of each issue of The Update) lists names, addresses, phone numbers, and workforce positions for your convenience.
During the month of August, Theta will join Delta Gamma and other Panhellenic groups in celebrating the I Am A Sorority Woman campaign. We will link this campaign to our Sister Strengths campaign. On Tuesday, August 13, look for an Instagram template you can save and add to your Instagram Story sharing why you are stronger because you are a sorority woman. You can also share our Facebook post with a message of which strength you embody and how being a sorority woman has helped you develop it. As a reminder, our Sister Strengths are listed below.
An example of a post would be: “I am a motivator, and I know my Theta experience helped me develop this strength. *insert personal details about how motivating others has influenced your personal or professional life* I am proud to be a sorority woman!”
