Harvard University’s Delta Gamma chapter has announced it will be closing, according to The New York Times and The Boston Globe. Delta Gamma National President Wilma Johnson Wilbanks cites the drop in the number of women pursuing recruitment as the deciding factor, though the university’s new strict policies on sororities may have affected the decision to close. Kappa Kappa Gamma and Kappa Alpha Theta chapters have also closed. Alpha Phi is currently the only NPC member group with an active chapter at Harvard.
The ex-president of now-suspended Temple University fraternity Alpha Epsilon Pi has been charged with sexual assault over a second alleged rape, according to ABC News. The fraternity was suspended earlier this year in April after three women said they were sexually assaulted at the fraternity house.
The University of Kansas is searching for ways to create a self-reporting Greek life policy, as a result of a failed alcohol freeze earlier this year, according to U.S. News and World Report. In an attempt to limit hazing and abuse at the school’s fraternities and sororities, the board decided to ban alcohol at fraternity events, but the move only lasted four days. Amy Long Schell, associate director of sorority and fraternity life, believes “We are at a very close place that something could go wrong, so we need to do something about it.”
In previous years, Theta has utilized the Golden Kite Expectations as a way to assess chapter operations on an annual basis. Fraternity staff and volunteers are revamping the Golden Kite Expectations program to ensure its effectiveness and efficiency. There will not be any Golden Kite Expectations posted for the 2018 or 2019 calendar years, and chapters are not expected to submit documentation for 2018 or 2019. We appreciate your patience as we work to ensure that our internal assessment program is the best it can be! Please direct any questions to goldenkite@kappaalphatheta.org.
