The Chronicle for Higher Education reported on a “new” phase of student activism, which the reporter positioned as an extension of the Abolish Greek Life (AGL) movement. The Chronicle’s reporting highlights how the University of Vermont agreed to a list of 16 demands issued by a student-led advisory group in response to the university’s mishandling of sexual assault allegations. The reporter also references activism at Dartmouth College and Bowling Green State University and speaks to expert sources who conveyed a sense that this new phase of activism—while related to the AGL movement—appears to be working from a more established assumption that long-lasting change within fraternities and sororities will require reform and stronger accountability rather than abolishment.
