The Advocate reported on the findings of a Louisiana State University (LSU) police investigation into hazing allegations. Earlier this month, the LSU chapter of Pi Beta Phi was suspended based on hazing allegations, and an LSU police investigation into the matter revealed a milk-chugging contest to be the subject of the allegations. The investigation into Pi Beta Phi’s hazing activities is ongoing. WBRZ and NOLA also reported on the investigation.
The Charleston Gazette-Mail and the Associated Press reported on a recent settlement made by West Virginia University (WVU) over the death of a student in his Kappa Sigma Fraternity house. In 2014, Nolan Michael Burch passed away in an alcohol-related death, and WVU recently reached a $250,000 settlement with Burch’s family. The Buffalo News and mrt* also reported on the settlement.
“The challenges facing students on campus today are more complex and require robust engagement from the professionals that serve the Panhellenic community,” said Carole Jones, chairman of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). “Our ability to lead and effectively partner with our campus-based colleagues demands we equip ourselves as a stronger, more strategic ally,” she added, citing the fight against hazing, alcohol abuse, sexual assault and diversity and inclusion, among other concerns.
