A popular TikTok influencer interviewed University of Southern California sorority members to discuss diversity in fraternity and sorority life, reports Your Tango. One member interviewed said, “We can’t really help it if people of color or who aren’t heteronormative don’t rush, but we want to create a safe space in case they do.” In addition to speaking with chapter members, the interviewer spoke with unaffiliated students.

Mentoring Month
January is Mentoring Month, and Kappa Alpha Theta wants to help our members make important connections through mentoring. We want members to have the capability to share advice on career help, educational opportunities, and more.
Throughout January, we are highlighting members who have served as mentors to other Thetas and showcasing the benefits of mentoring.
If you have served as a mentor or benefitted from a mentoring relationship, please let us know!
We plan to use your comments in various communication pieces (social media, blog, ThetaConnect, etc.). Contact Lisa Thibault, digital engagement & alumnae marketing manager, with your mentoring stories or questions.
The January issue of The Bulletin has been emailed to all college and alumnae chapter officers, advisors, and facility corporation board officers and posted in Theta Portal > Chapter Portal > Chapter Resources > HQ Communications Resources > The Bulletin. Workforce members always have access to The Bulletin via Igloo > Files > The Bulletin. The Update is Theta’s main communication source for the workforce, and The Bulletin is Theta’s main communication source for college chapter officers and advisors and alumnae chapter officers.
Kappa Alpha Theta is hiring for a temporary position (one year, with the possibility of extension) of collegiate support specialist. Please encourage any qualified candidates you may know to apply.
Theta Foundation is pleased to announce that the 2023 Scholarship Application is now available on our website. The application and recommendation forms are due on Wednesday, March 1. You can find more information on Theta's Apply for Scholarships & Grants page. Thank you for helping spread the word about this opportunity! Please direct any questions to Foundation Programs Director Mary Kate Smith.
Theta Foundation offers the opportunity to individual Thetas as well as college and alumnae chapters to apply for grant funding to support non-degree educational, leadership, and service-learning endeavors that promote the widest influence for good. The deadline for programs occurring this spring (on or after March 1, 2023) is tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 3:00 p.m. EST. After the Q3 deadline, members and chapters have one more chance to apply for grant funding this school year. The application deadline for programs occurring this summer is April 12, at 3:00 p.m. EDT. Please visit our website to learn more!
The ELCs have completed their visits for the fall term. They visited 21 chapters, facilitated 93 workshops, and served 2,288 members. Thanks to everyone who plays a role in helping this program, especially Theta Foundation which helps us make this program possible. The ELCs have begun their spring 2023 schedule of visits. Our team consists of three this semester, as we welcome back Christine Keylian after she spent the fall term working with collegiate services and supporting the reestablishment of Zeta Xi Chapter in Cambridge, Mass.
We are working with an outside agency to facilitate officer and advisor training this month. There will be four sessions geared directly toward officers scheduled every Tuesday from Jan. 10-31. We have invited two officers from each chapter to join us and strongly encourage that at least one of those officers be the vice president diversity, equity, and inclusion (VPDEI). Our officers are learning about DEI foundations and the practicality of being in this type of role for a student organization. The same group is also hosting an advisor training session (two advisors from each chapter have been invited to attend) on Jan. 30, to review some of the student training and provide space for discussion on how we coach students in these roles as we work toward creating belonging for all our members.
Our Young Alumnae Leadership Program is back with a new format this year. Instead of facilitating monthly conversations across the academic year, the schedule will run Jan. 10 to April 4, with discussion sessions every two weeks. This program is open to recent graduates who are also in volunteer roles and aims to provide general leadership skills to help participants build their ability to lead in all aspects of their lives. In addition to readings and other resources, our live discussions are facilitated by topic area experts, so participants have multiple connections as they build their awareness and ability in each topic area. This program is designed to be facilitated in a small group cohort format, and we are excited to work with our 21 participants this year (double our participant cohort from last year!). Please contact Assistant Director of Alumnae Engagement Megan Brady or Director of Education and Leadership Melissa Shaub with any questions. Thank you to Theta Foundation for their support in helping us provide these great sessions.
