Law.com offered reporting on The Timothy J. Piazza Law, which passed the New Jersey Senate unanimously on June 30. If passed, it would give New Jersey “one of the toughest anti-hazing laws in the country.” Gov. Phil Murphy is expected to sign the legislation. Piazza died in a hazing incident at Pennsylvania State University four years ago.
On Tuesday, July 6, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine signed Collin's Law: Ohio's Anti-Hazing Act into law. As reported by The Columbus Dispatch and other media outlets, the law will increase penalties for those involved in hazing incidents on and off campuses in the state. It also adds forced consumption of drugs and alcohol to Ohio’s definition of hazing. In March, the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) led a grassroots effort with college Panhellenic members and fraternity/sorority advisors in Ohio asking them to contact members of the Ohio General Assembly to encourage the passage of Collin's Law.
