Harvard University’s Kappa Alpha Theta chapter will become Theta Zeta Xi, a gender-neutral social group in the fall of 2018, according to the New York Post, Teen Vogue, the Daily Mail, and others. Harvard has imposed sanctions on single-gender groups, such as holding these students from campus leadership positions, including varsity sports, and from receiving college endorsement for internships or fellowships. Alongside other NPC member organizations, Kappa Alpha Theta has stood opposed to these sanctions, but this decision reflects limited choices but to abide by “Harvard’s social organization and nondiscrimination policies.”
With an inordinate amount of attention diverted to Harvard these past few weeks, a Grand Council committee appointment was overlooked. Grand Council appointed the personnel committee for the 2018 – 2020 biennium. Mandy Wushinske is the chairman and the committee members are Mary Jane Beach, Jane Dick, Leah Hartman, and Vicki McCluggage.
