Douglas Belkin reports in The Wall Street Journal on expanded efforts by universities to implement a report card on fraternities and sororities as part of efforts to curb poor behavior, alcohol violations, and hazing, among other activities. Belkin notes that these efforts build on those of Pennsylvania State University in the aftermath of Timothy Piazza’s death and resulting implementation of new reforms in State College, Pa.
Fifteen Theta Tau Fraternity brothers at Syracuse University were suspended for making a video with racist and anti-Semitic content, according to The New York Times. Readmittance is not guaranteed and is at the discretion of Syracuse. The video also contained allusions to sexual assault and ridiculed persons with cognitive disabilities. Controversy has surrounded the case as students are divided on whether university action to suspend the students was proper, or legal.
