Buzzfeed published a recap of the Bama Rush documentary, with mentions of The Machine, Alabama’s desegregation of Greek life in 2013, sexism, and sorority popularity. The article contained screenshots of Twitter users’ reviews of the documentary. The piece also breaks down major themes of the documentary, including the origins and goals of sororities in general, violence against women, and the historical exclusion of women of color.
News Nation reported that it costs an average of $1,000-$4,750 per semester to join a sorority. These costs include application fees, member dues, recruitment fees, and social expenses—though, a substantial amount also goes into outfits and rush consultants, particularly at schools with large Greek communities like the University of Alabama.
Kappa Alpha Theta Headquarters is Hiring
Theta is hiring a part-time finance coordinator and a full-time Fraternity Housing Corporation (FHC) property manager. The job descriptions and application instructions are posted. Please encourage any qualified candidates you may know to apply.
Year-End and Expense Reports
The Fraternity’s 2022-2023 fiscal year ends June 30. Please submit your invoices in a timely manner. 2022-2023 expenses will be accepted until, but no later than, July 31. No exceptions to this deadline will be granted, as the Fraternity’s audit begins in August. Also remember that, in accordance with the Fraternity’s travel policy, only expenses submitted within 90 days of expenditure will be reimbursed. If you have any questions, please contact your staff partner. Please note on your submitted expenses if they are for the 2022-2023 or 2023-2024 fiscal year.
Grant-Related Expenses
Grant-related expenses are due no later than July 10, 2023. Please submit them immediately and contact Director of Education and Leadership Melissa Shaub if you have outstanding invoices so we can ensure they are included in our grant request.
