Industry Update Provided by NPC
Los Angeles Times reported that San Diego County sent cease-and-desist letters to eight student organizations and housing units (six of which are Greek) in advance of Halloween. If any were to violate the county orders each could have faced criminal misdemeanor citations and $1,000 fines for each violation of the California Department of Public Health. In addition, San Diego State University issued a stay-at-home advisory for all students on and off campus in support of the orders to encourage adherence to public health guidelines.

Workforce, Officer, Advisor Training & Member Programming
- Our first sessions for our cohort programs were held last month. Assistant Director of Collegiate Services Madison Cannon facilitated an introduction to Emotionally Intelligent Leadership for our junior members and Assistant Director of Alumnae Engagement Laura Stelsel and Director of Education and Leadership Melissa Shaub are coordinating sessions for the young alumnae group. The young alumnae group discussed StrengthsQuest last week with guest facilitators Andrea Kleekamp and Jennah Jones. Thank you to Theta Foundation for their support of these leadership programs!
- Don’t forget our workforce monthly session is cancelled for today. We will resume Dec. 1 with a follow-up conversation about Theta’s Plan of Aspirations.
- Our advisor onboarding sessions for Fall 2020 are in full swing with 120 participants! These sessions are conducted entirely online, and participants receive emails about every two weeks with resources to review at their own pace—no live sessions required.
- We will host two virtual training sessions in December for advisors in/around specific cities. Charlotte and Boston were the lucky winners of our advisor drive-in sessions for Fall 2020. We will host more training sessions, so stay tuned for training to come to a city near you.
- College officer training sessions for 2021 officers will be offered in January and February. We are working with staff and volunteers who work with the following officers and programming areas to build and schedule these training programs. The following officers/programming area trainings will be offered: chief executive officer (CEO); administration; diversity, equity, & inclusion; education/member orientation; facility management; finance; marketing/online media; member development; Panhellenic; philanthropy; recruitment; risk prevention; ritual; and scholarship. Theta Foundation is also sponsoring the general leadership programming for these officers—thank you to Theta Foundation and donors!
- We’ve added a diversity, equity, & inclusion (DEI) advisor to our advisory boards! Thanks to Theta Foundation’s support, we will connect these advisors to training from LeaderShape on Courageous Dialogue. In 2021, this training will be provided to three officers from each chapter.
- General member programming will also be virtual! We are thrilled to be working with Sydney Montgomery (Epsilon Mu/Princeton), who will lead our first session in November for members interested in applying to law school. If you or someone you know has an area of expertise that would benefit general members and can be facilitated via Zoom, please contact Madison Cannon or Melissa Shaub.
