During National Hazing Prevention Week, Dr. Phil invited multiple families on his show whose children suffered hazing or death due to hazing-related instances as a fraternity new member. The family of Stone Foltz, a 20-year-old student who passed away from alcohol poisoning as a new member of Pi Kappa Alpha, spoke about their son’s death and their anti-hazing advocacy. Another interview highlighted the family of Danny Santulli, a 19-year-old who is now blind and paralyzed due to alcohol poisoning after a Phi Gamma Delta hazing ritual. They discuss their son’s life after the hazing incident, the lawsuit against the fraternity, and the sentencing of the fraternity members who endangered their son’s life.

The next session will take place Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 11:30 a.m. PDT/2:30 p.m. EDT, and our topic will be Whiteness. We will discuss the ways in which this topic impacts our work in Theta as well as how it might impact our chapters. Registration is open to all workforce members.

If you live in or around Chicago, please consider attending to learn more about the FSPAC's efforts and why we need your help to elect as many federal candidates as possible who believe in freedom of association, access to safe and affordable housing for our students, and completely eliminating hazing. Email Director of Government Relations Alicia Lee with any questions.
National Mentoring Day is Oct. 27, and Theta is taking time the week of Oct. 24 to recognize the powerful relationships mentors can offer to mentees: offer advice, guidance, and new skills, and promote leadership, personal excellence, and sisterhood. Each day that week will offer themes related to mentoring: what it is, why it’s important, how to find a mentor/mentee in ThetaConnect, and testimonials from Thetas who have benefited from mentoring. As a result of Mentoring Week, we hope to increase signups in ThetaConnect, promote awareness of ThetaConnect's Mentoring area and how to use it, and receive stories from members on their mentoring experiences. Please direct any questions regarding ThetaConnect to Lisa Thibault, digital engagement and alumnae marketing manager.
Both programs will take place on ThetaConnect and both mentors and mentees will receive resources and tips throughout their respective program. Please direct any questions about the program to Lisa Thibault and encourage anyone you know to register.

Theta hosts a survey for undergraduate members every winter. This survey provides us quantitative data to help better understand the lived experiences of our members. The data also provides us opportunities to tailor programs and services to best meet the needs of members. Our 2022 data is here and we have distributed chapter reports. In upcoming issues of The Update, we will report information we learned from this survey. We want to share some demographic information about our members.
