Dozens of media outlets offered coverage of the new anti-hazing coalition announced Sept. 10 by the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), the North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) and parents of students who lost their lives to hazing. Links to some of those stories are below. NPC Chairman Carole Jones appeared on NBC’s TODAY and ABC’s Good Morning America. The conference was also mentioned in the Sept. 11 POLITICO Morning Education Report and in the Associated Press, with the story syndicated by 170 other publications. The Washington Post quoted Jones: “The difference is, we've never had parents involved before. Fraternities and sororities have never partnered with parents who have lived this devastation, and their stories are having a huge impact on students.”
According to StateCollege.com, former Penn State Beta Theta Pi Fraternity member Aidan M. O'Brien will plead guilty on Dec. 6. He was charged with one count of hazing, two counts of unlawful acts relative to liquor, and one summary offense of consumption of alcohol by a minor. Court documents do not specify to what charges O’Brien will plead guilty.
