Eta Chapter at the University of Michigan once again received its charter on Sunday, March 29, with Fraternity President Erica D’Angelo Ochs presiding over the ceremony. Eta Chapter becomes Theta’s 141st active college chapter.
Michigan Associate Director FSL and Panhellenic Advisor Shannon Benson said, “147 years ago, Kappa Alpha Theta established its Eta Chapter as the first sorority at the University of Michigan, just nine years after the University began admitting women. Generations of members have thrived at Michigan because of the home they found in Theta. Having Theta return to campus is significant and exciting to our community. … Today, our Panhellenic community is the largest it has ever been and with women continuing to seek out this special experience at Michigan, it makes sense that Theta, who started it all, is back on campus offering a special place for new generations to become the best versions of themselves. Michigan Panhellenic and fraternity and sorority life are stronger today with Theta active and thriving.”
Thank you to Fraternity President Erica D’Angelo Ochs, Fraternity Vice President Ansley Howze, Fraternity Ritualist Mary Jane Beach, and Michelle Geiger for presiding the Initiation Service.
Theta's 2026 Leadership Academy took place in Chicago, IL, this past weekend. Leadership Academy is a program that provides leadership education and development to newly elected officers. Officers invited to attend focused on building connections and community such as new member directors, human resources directors, and event directors (although many different officer roles were present). The experience focused on understanding effective leadership and offering opportunities to practice applying the new knowledge to their leadership roles.
Thank you to our lead facilitators: Mandy Womack, Gamma Sigma/San Diego State, and Natalie Padrón, Zeta Eta/Wofford. Breakout sessions were facilitated by staff members Bonni Holloway, Eta Sigma/Chapman; Pria Sharma, Eta Phi/Belmont; Jamisen Casey, Zeta Phi/Pepperdine; and Isabelle Conner, Beta/Indiana.
This program is only possible thanks to the generous support of Theta Foundation. Thank you to Theta Foundation staff members Kelley Hurst and Sarah Hanley for attending this year’s event.
Questions about the Leadership Academy can be directed to Melissa Shaub.
