Please keep the Kates family in your prayers. Amy's husband, Andy, has been diagnosed with ALS. This is a very recent development, so Amy and Andy still have far more questions than answers, but as you might imagine, they are determined to get Andy the absolute best care possible.
Amy has taken a temporary leave from her Theta responsibilities while she digests this news and determines the new normal for her family. Michelle Geiger, 1st Alternate NPC Delegate, has assumed Amy's NPC delegate responsibilities. CEO Betsy Corridan will manage her ritualist responsibilities. Please adjust your records accordingly.
This is not a private matter for the family, so feel free to share as you see fit. Understandably, managing the reaction of concerned friends at this time is exhausting, and takes away from Amy’s focus on Andy’s care. However, there is no doubt she would welcome notes of care and support. Her mailing address is 921 Fern Street, New Orleans, LA 70118.
Thank you for your support of this very special Theta.

Feeling unwell Tuesday evening, Amy sought medical treatment at a New Orleans hospital. It was there that she suffered a massive heart attack. Fortunately, emergency personnel were able to revive her. She remains in the intensive care unit. As you may know, Amy's father is a retired physician, and he is now with the family in New Orleans. It shouldn't surprise anyone that the family has a tremendous local support system. For those of us across the continent, the call to action is prayer and notes of care and support.

We heard nothing from Dr. Hayner overnight, and take that as a good sign. A few folks have asked about social media posts. We have stayed away from all channels in deference to the family. While we care tremendously, this is not Theta's news to share.
Amy was among the first chapter consultant class I recruited. It's been a true joy watching her Theta career flourish through the decades. She's a fighter, a Bettie Locke of our time. If anyone can beat this, it's Amy. Thank you all for your support.

Betsy, This is a beautiful post. Thank you for the update. Wishing Amy and the entire Kates family strength and fortitude in the days ahead.
Thank you so much for keeping us up to date. I've been thinking about their family all week.
Thanks for the update, Betsy. My heart is heavy for the Kates family. This seems to be more than one family should ever have to bear, especially in such a short period of time. Continuing to send good thoughts and healing energy to New Orleans.
