Coverage continues on the hazing death of a Florida State University student. Nine members of the Phi Kappa Phi fraternity were arrested after a Pi Kappa Phi hopeful, Andrew Coffey, died at a pledge party due to acute alcohol poisoning. Police announced hazing charges against nine men in the November death of Florida State University fraternity pledge Andrew Coffey. Coffey, 20, died on Nov. 3 after a Pi Kappa Phi “big brother” ritual where he passed out after drinking, according to a Leon County grand jury report released in December. Coffey was found unresponsive the morning after the party, and he had a blood alcohol level of .447 at the time of the autopsy. The grand jury concluded that there was…
#HearHerHarvard Day of Action Postponed to Tuesday, Jan. 23
Hi, everyone! An FYI that the #HearHerHarvard Day of Action to show support for our sisters at Harvard has been postponed until tomorrow to give all three organizations some more time to spread the word and promote the event on social media. I have seen a few posts from some amazing Thetas following the instructions from The Update last week--thank you so much for your support, ladies! Totally fine to leave those posts up today, and if you have time to make a second post tomorrow, all the better. There are posts on Theta's Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter profiles with more details on the effort tomorrow. We can't wait to flood social media with the power of sorority! Hopefully this campaign will help sway unaffiliated women at Harvard to register for recruitment. If you have an Instagram account, I encourage you to post on that network using the hashtag #HearHerHarvard in order to reach as many college women at Harvard as possible.
I know our Panhellenic sisters at Harvard sincerely appreciate all our love and support. Please let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks,
Lauren

The Interfraternity Council (IFC) said in a statement that the self-imposed suspension allowed it to "conduct an extensive review ... to identify the policies and practices needing improvement within the community." It said that…

US News and World Reportand Inside Higher Ed both offer reporting on the “Call for Critical Change” meeting, which the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) launched in Indianapolis this week. Lauren Camera, education reporter for US News, wrote: “Notably, the public indignation [of recent student deaths and hazing incidents] has been aimed squarely at fraternities, not sororities. But sorority leaders have been quick to embrace the notion that their organizations are…
